Mark Harvey is the Director of Graduate and Undergraduate Programs, and the MBA program at the University of Saint Mary. He earned his PhD in political science from the University of Kansas. He is the author of "Celebrities Take a Knee: Athletes, Actors, and Musicians versus the Reality Show President" (University Press of Kansas), “Politics and Power in the Record Industry: The Beatles, the Beach Boys, and the Album as Art Form” (Musicology Australia), and “The Rise of the LP: The Politics of Diffusion Innovation in the Recording Industry” (Business History). His book, Celebrity Influence: Politics, Persuasion, and Issue-based Advocacy (University Press of Kansas), discusses the way celebrities influence our politics. He has ongoing projects on celebrity and media coverage in the 2016 campaign and the effect of music on perceptions of political candidates and issues. He is also a singer/songwriter for the band Uncle Pinky. The group’s ongoing project, American Eclipse, deconstructs the American Dream by telling stories of people struggling to reconcile their economic circumstances with their personal beliefs.
